6th Scientific Meeting "The Challenge to Improve Cerebro-Cardio-Renal Outcomes"

Dear Colleagues and Friends

It is a great pleasure, on behalf of the Indonesian Society of Hypertension, we welcome you all to this 6th Indonesian Society of Hypertension Scientific Meeting.

In the years to come the burden of hypertension is expected to rise enormously. There were approximately 972 million people living with high blood pressure in the world in the year 2000, compared to an estimated 1.56 billion in 2025, and in Indonesia approximately 31,7 % adult people living with hypertension.

Efforts to control the epidemic of high blood pressure (BP) and its cardiovascular and renal complications  have  traditionally  focused  on  pharmacologic   treatment  of  persons  with established  hypertension.  Such  efforts  reflect  an  impressive  body  of  evidence  that  has documented the beneficial effects of antihypertensive drug therapy in preventing BP-related clinical complications.

We realized that drug therapy alone is an incomplete solution to the treat of high BP and its complications. It is well recognized that the risk of BP-related cardiovascular and renal disease increases  progressively  throughout  the  range  of  BP,  including  ranges  of  BP  previously considered normal. Hypertension is not  always a physiological problem and it can also be caused due to various kinds of mental problems that disturb the mind

Furthermore, a large fraction of adults have a BP that is above optimal and yet is below the traditional threshold for drug treatment. Such BP levels nonetheless  place individuals at increased risk of BP-related complications, yet they are not candidates for drug therapy. In view of these considerations, national and international policy-making bodies recommend lifestyle modification as a means to prevent and treat hypertension and thereby prevent cardiovascular and renal disease in the whole population.
To concentrate on the above mentioned difficulties , our theme this meeting is

“Hypertension Syndrome:  The Challenge to Improve Cerebro-Cardio-Renal Outcome”

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in this hopefully fruitful event.

Best regards,
A. Sari S. Mumpuni, MD
